A village older than the borough
Westchester Square was founded about 1654 by English settlers who had left the New Haven Colony, which makes it one of the oldest settlements in the Bronx. St. Peter's Episcopal Church, at 2500 Westchester Avenue, was founded in 1693 in the Village of Westchester. Its Gothic Revival stone building is the third to occupy the site.
Going clockwise from the north, the neighborhood runs from East Tremont Avenue and Silver Street, then along Blondell Avenue and Westchester Creek on the east, Waterbury Avenue on the south and Castle Hill Avenue on the west.
The elevated line and the morning trip home
The Westchester Square-East Tremont Avenue station on the IRT Pelham Line is served by the 6 train. It opened in 1920 with the Pelham elevated line. Zerega Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue stations also serve the neighborhood.
The station matters to sleep because an overnight study ends in the morning. The choosing guide suggests settling the trip to the center and the trip home before the night, along with the arrival time and the preparation steps. The sleep study guide describes the night itself.
Sleep centers with a nearby address
Better Sleep NY is at 3427 Bruckner Boulevard, Bronx, NY 10461, the same zip code as Westchester Square. The iSleep Program and NY MetroSleep Center, both on Waters Place in 10461, are also nearby. Every page shows a phone number.
A short call can confirm whether the center takes your insurance or Medicaid plan, whether it needs a referral and how long results take. The home and lab guide lists the questions to bring.
Sleep and an old village center
A neighborhood that dates to the 1600s still has to meet the same bedroom conditions as any other, and the CDC's tips for a quiet, relaxing and cool room apply to every address. The city sleep guide goes through light, noise and heat, and explains how NYC311 takes noise reports.
